Mr. Mario Polèse is the author of a number of important works on the economy of cities, such as the university manuel Économie urbaine et régionale (4ième édition. Economica, Paris, 2015). His other workds include : The Wealth and Poverty of Regions (U. of Chicago Press); Connecting Cities with Macroeconomic Concerns (Banque mondiale); La périphérie face à l’économie du savoir (INRS, Montréal). Mario Polèse regularly advises the municipal, provincial and federal governments on local economic developmentacts on issues of local economic development. He has held research and teaching posts in France, Switzerland, Spain and Latin America.
Mr. Mario Polèse offers us a look at Montreal’s economy from a historical perspective, from the 1960s to today, with a focus on the major transformations that marked its course. First, he will explain the roots and consequences of the so-called “Quiet Revolution” which has profoundly changed the economic and social landscape of Greater Montreal. Then, he will present the major structural trends in employment, highlighting the most dynamic and promising employment sectors for the future.
