Free French classes for immigrants

Did you know that the best way to integrate and find a job in Quebec is to learn French? It’s the official and most widely spoken language in the province, from public institutions and workplaces to teaching, communications, retail, and business. PROMIS is here to make the process simple and accessible.

Learning French in Montreal starts here.

Interested in learning French and all of its unique expressions? You’ll need to sign up on the Government of Quebec’s Apprendre le français platform; there is no other way to access these courses.

Create an account, fill out the necessary information, select PROMIS as your learning centre, then wait for the MIFI to contact you.

These free French courses unfold over 11 weeks:

  • Beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels
  • Instruction includes oral, written, and spoken French
  • Full-time or part-time courses available
  • Morning, afternoon, and nighttime slots on weekdays and weekends (schedule varies based on proficiency level)
  • In-class or remote lessons
  • Available across Quebec
  • Courses offered from abroad under certain conditions

Other course formats are also available:

  • Completely online or remote
  • Tailored based on job/industry
  • At your workplace

You will also have access to any other PROMIS services you might need, including employment assistance and academic support.

French courses are for you if you are:

– A person aged 16 and over as of July 1 in the year preceding your immigration application and you live in Quebec: immigrant or Canadian by birth;

– An employee who works at a company that wishes to receive francization services;

– A person who wants to move to Quebec.

Visitors and tourists are not eligible for our courses.

French courses offered by the Government of Quebec are free.
