Reviving Democracy in Quebec
This event will be presented in French.
This public lecture is presented jointly by Marc-André Ouellette and Kimberlee Desormaux, co-authors of the book “Raviver la démocratie au Québec”.
The event will be held in person at PROMIS in the Marie-Adélaïde room and will also be webcast on Zoom.
Here is an overview of the themes that will be discussed during the conference: Our democracy should not be taken for granted. Quebec is not immune to threats like lack of trust, misinformation and the global rise of anti-democratic populism. How to turn the tide? How to transform the National Assembly from a battlefield to a place of collaboration and reflection? How can we better equip citizens and make them transform from mere spectators to central players in our political system?
These types of questions have fueled a long reflection that we share in the book “Raviver la démocratie au Québec” and that we present to you in the context of this conference.
Conference presented by:
Marc-André Ouellette is co-author of the essay “Raviver la démocratie au Québec”. His civic engagement was mainly done within the organization Génération d’idées (GEDI) from 2008 to 2013. GEDI’s mission was to offer young people a space to actively contribute to the advancement of our society. Marc-André continues to value citizen empowerment and defends the principle that we must all be in solution mode when faced with societal challenges.
With a master’s degree in sociology, Kimberlee Desormeaux is passionate about current issues. This passion led her to be co-president of Génération d’idées in 2013 and co-author of the essay “Reviver la democratie au Québec”. She is also a sociology teacher in CEGEP and the mother of a little boy.
