Frequently Asked Questions
Our service is linked to PROMIS’ mission, which supports immigrants by offering temporary accommodation intended primarily for newcomers and foreign students. The first condition is to accept access to PROMIS’ services. First, you will need to fill out the online form in the Residence section, and our accommodation department will contact you within a few business days. If your application is accepted, we will confirm your registration. A $50 fee will be charged to open your file. Once you’re on our list, we will contact you as soon as we have a room available that aligns with your preferred arrival date.
As a newcomer, you’ll have the chance to meet with a PROMIS advisor who will inform you about all the services available to you under one roof, completely free of charge.
The accommodation fee includes phone service for local calls (landline with voicemail), wired internet connection, heating, electricity, and hot water. Rooms are furnished, but linens are not provided.
All of our rooms are single occupancy. The only difference between a large and small room is the surface area (11 m2 or 16 m2), the number of closets, and the number of windows (1 or 2).
You can make a request to move rooms, which will be granted subject to availability. A $50 fee will apply.
In order to keep the residence safe and pest-free, we do not accept outside furniture. However, if you would like to add small items of furniture from our supplier, you can file a request with the administration.
There is a kitchen on the 5th floor where you can prepare your own meals. Microwaves are available on each floor for reheating food. No cooking appliances are allowed in the rooms, except kettles and coffee makers.
The residence does not enforce a curfew. You can come and go as you please. After 11pm, the nighttime security guard will let you in and request a piece of ID before you can enter your room. Visitors are not allowed inside residents’ rooms – they must stay in the lobby. Female visitors are allowed, but they must be greeted at reception by a resident and sign the visitor log.
The residence is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The accommodation service on the second floor is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, to answer any questions you may have. Reception is open 7/7, from 7am to 11pm. Security takes over from 11pm to 7am.
Mail and parcels are collected in the reception area. You can pick them up anytime.
Payment is always due on the first day of the month. If you are arriving from abroad, we accept credit card or cash payments for the first month. After that, all payments must be made via Interac e-transfer or a cheque made out to PROMIS.
The residence is meant to be a temporary housing solution, but stays can be extended under certain conditions. People who are continuing their studies may be allowed to stay at the residence for up to 3 years.
